What I teach…

What is Embodied Yoga?…

This is a Somatic Yoga practice that works from the inner experience of the student, to define how the practice will progress forward. Through visualisations, intuitive movement and vagus nerve stimulation, you are brought into a practice that can be defined as more self lead by the nervous system without a “peak pose” as is defined in more traditional Yoga practices. This is a practice that is suitable for anyone whether you are a complete beginner or at an advanced level with your yoga practice.

What is Myofascial Release?…

‘Myo’ (meaning muscle) and ‘Fascial’ (meaning thin sheath) Release, is a form of manual therapy, rolling a ball over the connective tissue that runs throughout our muscle fibres. Fascia is a fibrous network of connective tissue made from elastin, collagen and fibroblasts that runs throughout the entire body. Without getting too “sciencey” this means that it is not only strong but also flexible. Fascia whilst running through muscles, also supports tendons, ligaments organs, nerves and even around and through the bone. It also supports the lymphatic system. Only in recent years are we truly beginning to understand the depth and intricacies of this incredible system. Equally the health and manual manipulation of this system is known to help in cases of rehabilitation from physical injury and also to aid in deep relaxation and activation of the parasympathetic nervous system (also known as ‘Rest and Digest’ system).

This practice incorporates a yoga flow combined with rolling and breath work.

What is Yin Yoga?…

“The beauty of Yin yoga is time, not effort”- Paul Grilley

Yin yoga is a cooling slower practice, often floor based and holding poses between three and five minutes. The postures are usually to target shoulder and hip opening working the ligaments and tendons and deep fascial networks in the bone structures.

Yin practice is all about the release of effort; less “doing” and more feeling into the sensations as you hold the poses. Classes usually include integrated breath work, slow flow, visualisation and self massage.
